Tracing Rays

Thursday, 15 April 2004.

I searched through the wastes, looking for signs of civilization lost. Reaching up from the sand, I saw a city, long abandoned and crumbling. Working my way through one of the buildings, I found an ancient artifact. Not one to hoard, I am sharing that artifact with you.

It’s a raytracer I wrote five years ago, sitting alone and collecting dust on a disk somewhere. You can find it here, but don’t judge my code—I was young and stupid then. (But, for better or for worse, artifacts must be preserved—it is how you learn.)

If I were to do it again today, the code would be legible, and it would probably dynamically generate a BMP8 image. Maybe I'll clean it up one of these days.
