The Sapling’s Lesson

Thursday, 25 January 2007.

A slender, solitary reed trembles in the morning breeze.

It trembles because of its fragility. It trembles because it is easily broken.

So, too, does the tall oak in the distance tremble in the breeze. The oak, however, cannot be so easily broken: it has stood strong, and weathered much over the long years.

Yet, still it trembles in the breeze, as it did when it was but a sapling.
