The Dinosaur Trinket

Sunday, 23 November 2008.

Yesterday, I went to the trinket store and came across a beautiful little trinket: a small dinosaur carved from vegetable ivory, equal parts ferocious and adorable.

The Dinosaur Trinket

After I picked a particular one out of the little basket of dinosaurs they had, I handed it to the saleswoman and said, “I'll take this one, I think it has the most personality.”

She rang up the price, as I paid. “We recently got this little shipment of dinosaurs. My boyfriend says they're little godzillas, but I think they're just supposed to be dinosaurs.”

I agreed. “They were made in Ecuador, so they can’t possibly be godzillas. Now, if they were from Japan and carved out of irony, then I would say they were godzillas.”

She handed the dinosaur back with a smile. “I'll tell him you said that.”
